KAHULUI–Rising Hawaii artist Daju captivates listeners with his latest single, “Rain,” a melancholic yet hopeful R&B track showcasing his unique blend of soulful vocals and evocative storytelling; the single released July 26, 2024.
Rain is emotional and introspective, weaving Daju’s vulnerable lyrics into a smooth melody. Its production and vocals create an atmosphere of reflection that resonates with listeners on a personal level.
“Being indoors is being in your head – and I was in my head, indoors, due to rain,” said Dominique Hill, the voice behind Daju. “I was inspired by the sunshine and clear skies that followed. It was a reminder that anything you’re going through will pass and all will be fine. In reality, this is a song about self love: my sunshine after the rain.”
Daju has been making waves in Hawaii’s music industry for 8 years, initially with remixes on SoundCloud. He began writing original music in 2020, pulling from influences including Frank Ocean, Pink Sweat$ and d4vid. Refining his sound, he produced Rain, turning raw emotion and art into a sonically uplifting journey of heartache and rebirth.
“I wanted Rain to be a space where people can find comfort. Sometimes, the most healing moments come when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and feel what we’re feeling. I hope this song can be a companion to anyone who needs it.”
Daju’s single “I Don’t Mind” was placed on MTV show Catfish last month. He’s also part of Hawaii-based music collective Boys of the Ocean – a rap group that infuses Hawaii influences into rap and R&B, and has collaborated with well-known local brands. The group recently released Old Maoli, an original song for 7-Eleven which reimagined local anthem “Whisper” by Maui artist, Maoli.
