Katherine Queen, live artist in historic Lahaina, does not give up hope for a new Lahaina

WAILUKU--As a female street artist in historic Lahaina Town since 2017, Katherine Queen knows what it takes to be a consistent artist of high quality. She painted live at Holle Fine Art Gallery, Gallery Rafael, and eventually at her gallery, Queens Art. Most remember Queen painting at her favorite spot by the sea wall.
Queen's thought-provoking and whimsical art has collectors from around the world relishing her more than 1,200 prints. All of Katherine Queen's art pieces contain her message: "The world needs your unique light."
"I like hearing the stories and theories people come up with when I paint a specialized piece," Queen says. "I found something I loved to do and because I loved it, I never stopped. On good days and bad days, I would always paint. It is like a creative principle of time and interest."
The fires may have paused Lahaina, but this live painter was seen painting live at the Paddle Out to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the devastating Maui fires. The fire has not prevented her talents from being known.
Queen is heralded as a generous sponsor at Art Centered Maui, a Lahaina Foundation for Creativity and Wellness, established after the Lahaina fires last year. Her donations of countless art supplies, her time, and her fiscal support keep her in the heartbeat of art on Maui.
"I love meeting creative kids and telling them I am not different from them. I explain that if you spend enough time doing something you are interested in, a unique style will develop and improve," says Queen.
Lahaina tourists walking by were replaced by a sea of 4,000 people at the Paddle Out, and just like the visitors from Lahaina, everyone knows Katherine Queen.
Queen was painting live left of the stage throughout the concert. She continues to make art on Maui and will continue to make it despite obstacles that are thrown her way.
