Coco Deck Lahaina to open late summer, bringing new flavors and community spirit to Front Street

The Maui News

WAILUKU–The Hana Hou Hospitality ownership team announced on Monday the upcoming opening of their new restaurant, Coco Deck Lahaina, Kitchen + Bar, located at 1312 Front Street, and led by local Chef Alvin Savella.

This new venture comes after the closure of Duckine, Savella’s first restaurant with the restaurant group. Duckine, which made a significant impact in the local culinary scene, earning accolades such as the 2023 Best New Restaurant and Most Innovative Menu in the Maui No Ka Oi ‘Aipono Awards.

Though many will be disappointed to see Duckine go, Coco Deck Lahaina is set to offer something uniquely valuable to the Lahaina community. The new restaurant aims to fill a gap in the area near the Lahaina Cannery on Front Street, bringing a fresh, community-focused dining experience that blends Mexican, local, seafood & American flavors.

During the wait to reopen, the Coco Deck Lahaina team had the privilege of supporting Hua Momona Farms. Their kitchen was used to prepare meals for ohanas displaced by the fire. They also hosted events to raise awareness and funds, raising over $17,000 with sister restaurant Māla Ocean Tavern for the Hua Momona Foundation.

Chef Alvin Savella shared, “We’re grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community during this challenging time. As we prepare to open our doors again, we look forward to continuing that support by offering a welcoming space where people can relax, unwind, and enjoy an affordable meal.” Chef Savella will be a featured Chef during the 1st Annual Maui Food & Music Experience, Sept. 5-7, 2024, alongside Hua Momona Executive Chef Zach Laidlaw.

Guests can look forward to a casual dining experience that caters to all tastes, with an ono mix of dishes such as tacos, burgers, and fresh fish, all showcasing Chef Alvin’s signature style. The deck’s oceanfront setting will provide the perfect backdrop for a relaxing meal, complemented by refreshing tropical tiki cocktails and mocktails.

The inspiration for Coco Deck Lahaina evolved from the needs of the community, with a strong emphasis on creating a family-friendly environment. The restaurant will feature a dedicated kid zone, ensuring fun for all ages, and multiple TVs will be set up to broadcast sporting events, making it a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike.

Whether planning ahead or just dropping by, Coco Deck Lahaina will welcome both reservations and walk-ins, offering an affordable and enjoyable outing for everyone in your ohana.

Coco Deck Lahaina will be open from 3-10 p.m., starting with Happy Hour from 3-5 p.m. The Happy Hour menu is appealing to the local crowd, with terrific offerings starting just $3.
