Kahului restaurant vandalized for third time Sunday morning
Gen Korean BBQ House offers $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of individual or individuals involved
WAILUKU–The Gen Korean BBQ House restaurant located at 80 Ho’okele Street in Kahului has experienced three separate occasions where someone has broken storefront windows, according to the store’s Regional District Manager, Conan Paik-Rosa, and video security evidence.
At approximately 4:46 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, more windows at the Gen Korean BBQ House were broken. The vandalism has prompted the business to offer a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.
According to Rosa, the business has contacted the Maui Police Department on all three occasions, and they are working together on the case.
The security footage from inside the store on Sept. 29, shows an individual dressed in black, hooded, and wearing a mask, approaching the main storefront windows. The individual pauses for a minute along the storefront before tapping the window with an object, causing it to shatter. The individual then runs away from the scene.
Security footage from the early morning of Sept. 23 shows a hooded and masked individual approaching the restaurant at approximately 5:24 a.m. The individual waits for a minute before walking along the entrance door window and hitting it with an object that cracks the window.
“We would like to offer an award leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. We do have camera footage but cannot catch a clear shot of their face,” Rosa said. “It is the same person all three times.”
Individuals with information on the vandalism can contact The Gen Korean BBQ directly at (808) 429-2806, on their Instagram account @genkoreanbbq, or the Maui Police Department non-emergency line at (808) 244-6400. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can call the Maui Crime Stoppers line at 808-242-6966.
The restaurant had their Grand Opening on Thursday, Sept. 26, according to a press release.
“As a result of demonstrated customer demand and the strong performance of our existing Hawaii locations, which generate approximately $6 million – $8 million each in annual revenue, we’re excited to add our Maui location to GEN’s growing portfolio of restaurants,” David Kim said via a press release Thursday. Kim is the Co-Chief Executive Officer of GEN. “The opening of our new restaurant comes on the heels of great success at our Oahu location. With value price points, an extensive protein-focused menu and our ‘cook-it-yourself’ dining model, we are looking forward to welcoming diners to our newest location.”
