Maui Police Department asking for public’s help with cold case

WAILUKU – The Maui Police Department (MPRD) Cold Case Unit requests the public's assistance in identifying a male who was found deceased in the waters off Kahului Harbor breakwater on Sept. 25, 1996, according to a press release from the MPD.

“The deceased male is described as a Caucasian in his late 30s, approximately 5-foot-9, and weighing around 230 pounds,” the release reads. “The male was discovered shirtless and wearing gray-colored gym shorts, with a yellow-colored mesh dive bag floating nearby. It is estimated that the male had been in the water for less than 24 hours before his recovery.”

The MPD has produced a forensic sketch of the male .

“The Maui Police Department remains committed to resolving this case and bringing closure to the family and friends of the deceased,” the release reads. “Every piece of information, no matter how small, can make a difference in this ongoing investigation.”
