Maui United Way’s “Tools for Schools” Program blesses $6,000 to Molokai

The Maui News

Maui United Way is launching its “Tools for Schools” program, which provided $15,000 in gift cards for school supplies to teachers in schools with the highest percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch across Maui County with $6,000 of that going to support keiki in Molokai schools.

This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on teachers, who often spend their own money to ensure their students have the supplies they need to succeed. By providing these gift cards, Maui United Way not only helps the keiki most in need across the county but also supports the dedicated teachers by reducing their out-of-pocket expenses.

“Our ‘Tools for Schools’ program address the educational needs of our keiki and ensures that our teachers have the resources they need to create a positive and effective learning environment without dipping into their own wallets,” said Makana Rosete, Director of Communications, Events and Advocacy of Maui United Way.

“The additional funds from Maui United Way will make a big difference in our classroom. With new materials and technology, I’m excited to see how they will engage and motivate my students, enhancing their learning experience,” said Kumu Edrian Apo, teacher at Maunaloa Elementary School on Molokai.

The gift cards were distributed to teachers in schools where the need is greatest, ensuring that the benefits of this program reach the students and educators who are most impacted by economic challenges. This initiative is part of Maui United Way’s broader mission to support the well-being of the Maui community through targeted programs and partnerships.
