Maui firefighters delayed a live fire training planned for Friday because the National Weather Service is predicting 20 to 30 mph winds with higher gusts.
But firefighters did some real work Wednesday controlling a brush fire in strong winds near the Kuihelani Highway west of Waiko Road around noon.
The fire burned five acres of brush on fallow agricultural land, and firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading by using an existing series of dirt roads to flank the blaze.
They also had a combined effort including three engines and two tankers.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
