Blessing of the Animals not just for dogs and cats
The annual Blessing of the Animals will be on Dec. 14 at the historic Keawalaʻi Congregational Church in Mākena with pictures with Santa at 9:15 a.m. and a blessing service at 10 a.m.
According to a news release, churches celebrate the blessing of animals in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.
Anyone who would like a picture with Santa is encouraged to come before the service as early as 9:15 a.m. Arrangements for the day will take into account the needs of the various animals and includes dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits or any other pets. Dogs must be leashed and other animals must be safely contained.
Recycling event for West Maui residents on Dec. 14 Pau IN for 121024
West Maui residents can dispose of recyclable bulky items at a Go Green Recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Appointments are required for the event, which is being hosted by the nonprofit Mālama Maui Nui in partnership with the Maui County Department of Environmental Management’s Abandoned Vehicles and Metals office.
The program allows residents to dispose of recyclables at no charge including air conditioners, batteries (lead acid only), washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, tires, water heaters, scrap metal and electronics (televisions, printers, computers, monitors and associated electrical cords). Commercial drop-offs will not be accepted.
