The Hawaiʻi Workers Center and Tagnawa for Maui will hold Paskua in Lahaina, From the Heart of Lahaina: Filipino Voices Rise on Post-Fire Struggles from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 15 at Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall.
At the event, HWC and Tagnawa for Maui will unveil the findings of the first report on Filipino Fire Survivors' Needs following 16 months of research amplifying Filipino voices.
According to the organization, the report will detail actionable solutions to prioritize the Filipino community as central to the post-fire recovery. The cultural celebration will also feature food, gifts and more.
The organization reports that over 40% of Lahaina residents are Filipino and 80% are renters, and Lahaina's Filipino working class residents will be critical in the post-fire recovery. The findings of the report will also provide a framework for prioritizing their needs while the celebration will provide a fun, family friendly environment for community building and solidarity.
