Ellis Bloyer, Sale Ioakimi, Les Johnson, Quinn Whitford and Rhett Wiseman recently celebrated their graduation from the Maui County’s Ocean Safety Recruit Class 8.

The 12-week training program covered an extensive variety of ocean rescue skills as well as Emergency Medical Responder and CPR skills, ATV/UTV and RWC operation and communication protocols.

The recruit training took place at locations throughout the island. Wiseman was given the award for the Best Overall Recruit, and the “Surf 50” award, created in memory of fallen Ocean Safety Officer Randy Hillen, was given to Ioakimi.

The recruits will join the ranks of our Ocean Safety Officers protecting the public on the beaches of Maui.
