A fishing vessel crewman suffering from an eye injury was taken by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter to Queens Medical Center in Honolulu.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received the emergency call from the vessel Capt. Davis 350 miles southwest of Oahu at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

A flight surgeon, who was consulted, recommended a medevac for the 24-year-old crewman.

Coast Guard crews aboard a HC-130 Hercules airplane and a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Barbers Point met the Capt. Davis at 6 a.m. Monday about 40 miles southwest of Kapolei on Oahu.

The helicopter crew hoisted the man, who was then taken to Queens Medical Center. He was reportedly in stable condition.
