Sentry Insurance reiterated its commitment not only to its annual golf tournament in Kapalua but also to the Maui community on Tuesday by contributing $1 million more toward helping Maui’s children continue to have mental health services to heal from the 2023 Lahaina Wildfire.

“It will not end here,” said Pete McPartland, Sentry’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Maui is a Sentry community.”

Speaking Tuesday on Maui, McPartland announced the second $1 million donation to Malama Na Keiki, which is funded by Sentry and administered by Maui United Way, to assist in mental health for children.

McPartland said Sentry officials have been working with Maui United Way, which has the ability to administer the program.

“We are most fortunate to have a fantastic United Way chapter on this island,” McPartland said.

Maui United Way President and Chief Executive Officer Jason Economou said he never could have imagined finding a community partner like Sentry.

Economou said that since its inception last year, Malama Na Keiki has helped thousands of children on Maui.

“Our youth are being equipped with tools they need to be healthy adults,” he said. “They are learning how to heal and move forward.”

With the latest donation, Sentry’s total wildfire relief and recovery contributions now exceed $3 million. Launched in November 2023, the program reports to have reached more than 5,000 children and families across Maui.

According to officials with Sentry, the new funding will expand the program’s reach and ensure its focus on children continues.

The Sentry golf tournament is part of the PGA Tour and takes place at The Plantation Course in Kapalua on Jan. 2-5.

The Sentry is the first of eight Signature Events of the 2025 season and welcomes tour winners from the previous season.
