Coast Guard rescues cruise ship passengers

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter rescued a 72-year-old man aboard the cruise ship Koningsdam last week after he suffered multiple strokes about 300 miles off Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.

The man was taken by an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, where he was in stable condition.

The Coast Guard was notified by 2:48 p.m. Wednesday, and the helicopter was able to rendezvous with the ship at about 9 a.m. Thursday. The ship is a Holland America Line cruise ship.
