Man killed in motorcycle wreck identified
On Tuesday, Maui police released the name of the man who died Saturday night in a motorcycle wreck in Wailuku.
According to police, 40-year-old Peter Simon of Wailuku was headed west on a 2023 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle on West Kaahumanu Avenue near Lunalilo Street at approximately 11:46 p.m. Saturday when his motorcycle veered right over the solid white fog line, struck a curb and embankment and collided head-on into the northeast corner of the retaining wall for Tings Bridge.
Simon sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol is pending as the investigation is still ongoing.
According to police, this is Maui County’s fourth traffic fatality of 2025, compared to two at the same time last year.
