Maui County Council to address proposed budget, property assessments

Real property tax assessments and Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen's proposed $1.5 billion budget are expected to be discussed during a series of upcoming public meetings.

Total assessments rose by about 12% this past year, according to the mayor's office, and Maui County Council members are looking to address recent complaints about rising assessments.

The council's Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Committee will begin its review of several bills and the mayor's budget proposal starting Monday.

The public budget discussions include:

• 9 a.m. March 31 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 9 a.m. April 1 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 6 p.m. April 1 -- Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center, Social Hall, 91 Pukalani Street, Pukalani.

• 10 a.m. April 2 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 6 p.m. April 2 -- Helene Hall, Social Hall, 150 Keawa Place, Hana

• 10 a.m. April 3 -- Maui County Council Chambers, with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 9 a.m. April 7 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 9 a.m. April 8 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 6 p.m. April 8 -- ILWU Local 142 Maui Division, 840 Ilima Avenue, Lanai

• 1 p.m. April 9 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 9 a.m. April 10 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 6 p.m. April 10 -- Lahaina Civic Center, Social Hall 1840 Honoapiilani Highway, Lahaina.

• 6 p.m. April 11 -- Mitchell Pauole Community Center, Main Hall 90 Ainoa Street, Kaunakakai.

• 9 a.m. April 14 -- Maui County Council Chambers, with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 6 p.m. April 14 -- Kihei Community Center, Main Hall 303 East Lipoa St.

• 10 a.m. April 15 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.

• 6 p.m. April 15 -- Paia Community Center, Social Hall 252 Hana Highway.

• 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. April 16 -- Maui County Council Chambers with in person testimony and remote oral testimony.
