Maui Spring Classic highlights junior talent

Hosted by the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association | First Tee – Hawaii, the Maui Spring Classic and 12 and Under Junior World Qualifier featured dozens of competitors April 5-6 at Wailea Blue Golf Course.
The two-day event attracted 38 junior golfers from across the state, along with several mainland players. The tournament awarded points for the Player of the Year standings, contributing to the race for a spot in the tour championship in December.
In the boys 7-10 division, Ashwin Patel from Lahaina claimed victory.
Rush Teshima from Highland, Utah, won the boys 11-12 division, while Olivia Oh of Irvine, California, took first place in the girls 11-12 division. The girls 13-14 division was won by Makena Yonemura from Waipahu.
Several players also earned spots in the upcoming Uswing Mojing Junior World Championship in July at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California.
In the boys 7-8 division, Kolo Manutai qualified, while Samuel Lee and Ashwin Patel earned spots in the boys 9-10 division.
Teshima, Kellen Nogawa and Carter Crouse secured their places in the boys 11-12 division, while Olivia Oh, Sienna Si and Lucy Cui qualified in the girls 11-12 division.
The event was played across various age divisions, with the boys 7-10 division set at par 71 over 4,933 yards, the boys 11-12 and girls 11-12 divisions set at par 71 over 5,453 yards, and the girls 13-14 division played at par 71 over 6,132 yards.
