Mobile trailer helps the homeless
A new mobile trailer will bring free showers and support services to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Project Vision Hawai’i has unveiled the newest HieHie mobile hygiene trailer at the Lahaina Resource and Recovery Center, located at 150 Hana Highway.
The mobile unit features private showers, restrooms, laundry, and hygiene supplies, as part of an outreach effort on Maui. A traditional Hawaiian blessing was conducted by Pastor Greg Dela Cruz of Living Way Church.
“We’re overwhelmed by the support we received today,” said Darrah Kauhane, executive director of Project Vision Hawai’i. “This trailer is a testament to what we can achieve together. It’s already making a difference by providing a clean, safe space for people to refresh and rebuild their confidence.”
The project HieHie, Hawaiian for dignity, was made possible through donations from the Scott Steffens and Family, UHA Health Insurance, Matson, and other collaborative efforts.
“Matson is grateful for the opportunity to support their vital initiatives, including the expansion of the Hiehie Mobile Hygiene Program on Maui,” said Ku’ihaku Park, Matson senior vice president of Government and Community Relations. “We deeply appreciate Project Vision Hawai’i’s impactful work in caring for our most vulnerable community members across the state.”
Howard Lee, president and CEO of UHA Health Insurance, said as a physician-founded and homegrown company, wellness and access to care are at the heart of what we do at UHA Health Insurance.
