Emily Muller holds her trophy as the Platinum level all-around gymnast at the 2025 State Championships.
Emily Mullen of Maui’s 808 Gymnastics club recently grasped the Hawaiʻi State title in the 2025 Hawaii Optional DP and Xcel State Championship, marking another milestone in the 13-year-old’s impressive gymnastics career.
Beginning gymnastics at age 7, Mullen instantly fell in love with the sport and quickly became a key athlete at the only gymnastics gym on the island of Maui.
Throughout the competition season, 808 Gymnastics has not only produced a state championship title holder but also multiple teams across different levels that won first place.
The gym continues to grow and thrive, strengthening its presence and influence within the local community.
This is the fourth consecutive year Muller has placed to compete for Regionals. Earning second place in Regionals in Washington state a couple years ago – while currently remaining in the top 5 in the entire Region.

Muller did a great job at showcasing what athletes are capable of as a contender of USA Gymnastics.
Gymnastics is a unique and challenging sport, demanding countless hours of training. To claim the crown, you must be unwavering in your dedication, maintaining confidence in your skills, abilities and determination.
Muller’s parents, who were in attendance at the meet, expressed their admiration for her dedication and hard work. After overcoming a tough injury and what could be her final season of competition before transitioning to high school next year, they couldn’t help but express their pride and joy with their daughter’s achievements.
“It’s pure happiness for parents to see their kids achieve such a feat,” said Maritz Mullen, Muller’s mother. “We are very proud of her. She deserves it — she worked hard for it. It is a competition, but we always remind her to have fun.”
Gymnastics is a sport that teaches valuable lessons far beyond the gym — each event carries its own unique story and lessons that shape an athlete’s character. With hard work, passion, and the right support, athletes can achieve greatness, regardless of where their journey takes them.
