Aloy wins national Golden Spikes Award

Former Baldwin High School shortstop Wehiwa Aloy has risen to a higher level of play in college, recently winning the national Golden Spikes Award and also the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.

Aloy, a junior, has started all 65 games at shortstop this year, was named an All-American by four major publications. His season was capped off by a semifinal run with the Razorbacks in the Men’s College World Series (MCWS), their 12th trip in program history and first since 2022.

Golden Spikes Award winners have gone on to have great success in the Major Leagues.

Six have earned Rookie of the Year honors, including Lewis in 2020. Additionally, three have won the Cy Young Award, three were named MVP, and 11 have won a World Series championship as a player or manager.

He led the team in nearly every major category, including slugging percentage (.673), on-base plus slugging (1.107), hits (93), runs scored (81), doubles (19), home runs (21), extra-base hits (42), multi-hit games (30), and total bases (179). He also ranks second on the team in batting average (.350), RBIs (68), and multi-RBI games (18).

His parents are Jamie and Napua Aloy. Jamie Aloy played college baseball at the University of Hawaii. Wehiwa’s younger brother, Kuhio, plays baseball at Arkansas, and his sister is Kiani.

The brothers also are the first siblings to ever earn First Ten All-SEC honors.
