Napili Kai Foundation awards $52,000 in scholarships

The Napili Kai Foundation has awarded $52,000 in higher education scholarships to 11 students.

The students are foundation graduates, Lahainaluna High School graduates, alumni and Napili Kai Beach Resort employee children.

Mekayla Bandy, the daughter of a 31-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, received $5,000 as Brandy will be returning to University of Hawaii UH Manoa as a sophomore and majoring in psychology.

Cheira-Emeryl Cappal, the daughter of an 18-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be returning to Portland State University as a sophomore and majoring in marketing and advertising management. Cappal also received $5,000.

Another recipient of a $5,000 scholarship, Theressa Nhelle Cabading is a six-year member graduate of the foundation who will be returning to UH Manoa as a senior and majoring in Nursing.

Kayla Mabalot-Del Castillo, daughter of a 12-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be attending UH Manoa as a freshman and majoring in graphic design animation. She received a $4,000 scholarship.

Gracia Marie Acosta, a seven-year member graduate of the foundation, received $5,000. Acosta will be returning to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a sophomore to major in Hospitality.

Shari Peralta, daughter of 15-year and 20-year parent employees of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be returning to UH-Manoa as a sophomore to major in Nursing. Peralta received $5,000.

Sarah Nicole Cariaga, a seven-year member graduate of the foundation who will be attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a freshman, received $4,000. Cariaga is majoring in hospitality.

Jasmine Lagazo, a six-year member graduate of the foundation, will be returning to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a sophomore and majoring in nursing. Lagazo received $5,000.

Janice Yabo, the daughter of a seven-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be attending UH-Maui as a freshman and majoring in business administration. Yabo received $4,000.

Zoe Salvador, daughter of a 32-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be attending UH-Manoa, as a freshman, majoring in accounting. Salvador received $4,000.

Aizza Lei Liwanag, an eight-year member graduate of the foundation, will be returning to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a junior to major in pre-dental, micobiology. Liwanag received $6,000.

The foundation’s scholarship fund has distributed $464,000 in higher education scholarships to date. The scholarships are funded by JC Millar Scholarship Fund, Bert and Barbara Stubblefield Scholarship Fund, Perna-Rose Foundation for Hope, Felts Family Foundation, Nation Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund, Jeff and Libby Ames Fund, Ron Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund and Gillian Coder Memorial Scholarship Fund.
