Seven Maui youths going to rodeo nationals

Team Maui competed recently at state high school rodeo finals on Kauai. Seven are going to the nationals.

Seven Maui youths have qualified to compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming in July.

The competition in Hawaii took place during the week of June 5-8, with Maui’s

top high school cowboy and cowgirl athletes traveling to Kaua’i to compete at the Hawai’i High School Rodeo State Finals.

Competitors including Maui’s own cowboys and cowgirls sent their horses on a Young Brothers’ barge or rented them from local cowboys on Kauai.

The Hawai’i State Finals is the entry ticket for these young athletes to compete at the nationals.

This year, Hawai’i’s National Team has 25 athletes, with seven from Team Maui.

Those Maui youths going to the finals include Elizabeth Miranda, All Around Cowgirl.

Elizabeth also took home a scholarship as the Hawai’i State Student Officer of the Year.

Others include Elleiana Shinno, Hawai’i Rookie All Around Athlete; Coco Acker; Kaili Rice; Kaelynn Rice; Jerome Silva; and Kaapuni Aarona.

Starting at $4.62/week.
