Workshops, open houses to focus on Lahaina Town street design
The Maui County Office of Recovery will be seeking input on the way streets in the commercial core of Lahaina town, including Front Street, are rebuilt during a series of design workshops and open houses June 24-26.
The series will focus on street connectivity and mobility in the area from Baker Street to Prison Street, and from the shoreline to Honoapiʻilani Highway, with emphasis on how streets in the area will be rebuilt to accommodate all uses including walking, biking, wheelchairs, riding the bus, driving and parking a car, or making deliveries.
The events are as follows:
Streets Workshops will be 1-5 p.m. June 24 and 1-3:30 p.m. June 25 at Lahaina Resource Center at Lahaina Gateway, Suite B102, near Ace Hardware. People are welcome to drop in at any time during the workshop to meet with the project team, learn about the project and share ideas.
Pau Hana Open House will be 4-7 p.m. June 25 at Lahaina Resource Center at Lahaina Gateway (Suite B102, near Ace Hardware). People are welcome to drop in at any time during the open house and view the design work that has been produced so far, as well as talk with the project team and provide feedback.
Pau Hana Open House and closing presentation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 26 at Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria. People will be able to Listen to a presentation on the work done during the workshops and view the draft street designs, talk with the project team and provide feedback. The presentation will also be livestreamed on Maui County’s Facebook page, and a live broadcast will be shown on Akakū: Maui Community Media, Channel 53.
