A small portion of Aki Street in Lahaina town will be closed Aug. 4-5 while the county creates a new roadway connection.

According to county officials, an approximately 130-foot section of Aki Street between the intersection of the eastern end of Aki and Kale streets to the existing western end of Aki Street, will be closed while paving, construction and signage work takes place.

Maui County recently acquired empty land between the two ends of Aki Street to create a link that will provide better traffic access which is an important roadway connection recommended in the Lahaina Longterm Recovery Plan.
