Maui team to compete in championship game

The Central East Maui All Stars defeated a team from Southern California in the Junior Little League Baseball World Series in Bend, Oregon, on Tuesday, sending the Valley Isle players into the championship game against Northern California for the west region Thursday.
The Maui team won 6-2 against Southern California to send them to the west region championship game.
Team members include Noah Mathias, Justice Wickes, Kolby Sergent, Jaxon Delos Santos, JZ Paredes, Kano Mamuad, Noa Jimenez, RJ Pascual-Trevino, Kaden Grancha, Dysen Kawachi, Ryder Urig, Josiah Yamada, and Kellen Racadio.
The coaches are Kris Sergent and Gary Mings, and the manager is Ken Kawachi.
Earlier, Maui defeated Colorado 20-0 on July 23, Idaho 23-0 on July 25 and Alaska 13-3 on July 27. The Maui team defeated Kailua 15-1 to secure the state championship.
If Maui team members win at the regional tournament Thursday, the 14-year-old boys will advance representing the west region at the Little League World Series in the junior division in Taylor, Michigan. The games are scheduled for Aug. 3-10.
The game Thursday is scheduled to be televised on ESPN Plus and also livestreamed on Facebook through Kanani Sergent’s page.
