With many still in need both materially and emotionally nearly two years after the wildfires, Hoʻōla Maui Long Term Recovery Group has launched an expanded disaster case management and survivor support program.
Announced Friday, the program is designed to provide holistic comprehensive, culturally sensitive assistance to all individuals and families affected by the 2023 Lahaina wildfire, regardless of their FEMA application status.
According to program organizers, the effort is meant to address ongoing challenges many survivors face as they work to rebuild their lives, including food insecurity, housing stability, financial resources and access to mental health services.
Additionally, the program is taking a trauma-informed, family-centered approach that ensures each survivor’s voice shapes their personalized recovery plan.
Organizers said one key feature of the program is its accessibility to all wildfire survivors, which removes a significant barrier that has prevented some from accessing the support they need.
The program leverages partnerships with organizations such as Hawai’i Community Lending, Roots Reborn, Kaibigan ng Lahaina, Ohana Hope Village, Jewish Community Services of Hawai’i, Maui Economic Opportunity and Hawai’i Community Foundation.
