Red Flag warning issued for Maui County
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a red flag warning for the leeward portions of all Hawaiian Islands.
The NWS says a dry and windy trade wind flow will develop July 31 and produce critical fire weather conditions until at least 6 p.m. Aug. 1, possibly into the weekend.
The warning is for leeward portions of all Hawaiian Islands and interior sections of the Big Island. The NWS predicts winds from the east of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph for Maui County.
Outdoor burning is not recommended. Heat from vehicle exhaust systems can also ignite dry grass, and people should make sure to park their cars on areas that are paved or where vegetation is trimmed and cleared.
