Retired firefighter Rian Takeshita will talk about emergency preparedness from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 2 before the Kihei-Wailea Rotary Club.

The free event will take place at South Maui Gardens by the Peace Pole.

According to organizers, understanding how to prepare and respond to an emergency is more important than ever, especially in island communities like Maui.

Takeshita is expected to share practical tips, insights from his career and advice for residents and local businesses.
