New dates in September for mayor’s Holomua Kākou on Lanai

Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen is bringing Holomua Kākou events to Lanai on Sept. 15-16 as part of his effort to take county government to the rural communities.

The new dates were scheduled after plans to hold the event in July were postponed following a tsunami warning.

“Our rural communities deserve meaningful access to government in their hometowns,” Mayor Bissen said in a statement. “Our residents lead busy lives with work, family and community commitments, and we appreciate the time and valuable insights they share with us.”

The Mayor Bissen and Your Team in Your Town events will be from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. both days at the ILWU Union Hall, 840 Ilima Ave., Lanai City.

Bissen also will host a community talk story from 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the ILWU Union Hall.

Members of the mayor’s staff will be available to help and advise constituents.

On Sept. 16, members of the mayor’s staff will host grant workshops from noon-2 p.m. at the ILWU Union Hall. The sessions will be facilitated by County Chief of Staff Cynthia Lallo and Budget Director Lesley Milner and will focus on general grant writing skills. They also will be available to answer questions related to the county’s grants process.

Lanai residents are welcome to submit topics and questions ahead of the community talk story via email to Public.Affairs@mauicounty.gov. Those attending the meeting that evening also can ask questions in person.

According to the county, Holomua Kākou events are planned for East Maui and Molokai in August.

Starting at $4.62/week.
