Maui police are investigating a shooting that left a man in critical condition early Thursday morning in Kihei.

According to police, a 50-year-old Kahului man drove himself to a health care provider off South Kihei Road and reported that he had been shot at 3:53 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the man suffered a single gunshot wound but did not say where he had been hit or who shot him. The man was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he is being treated.

At 6:08 a.m. Thursday, Maui County officials announced the southbound lane of North Kihei Road near mile marker two had been closed due to a police investigation.

Police said the incident is being investigated as a second-degree attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing and no further information was available at this time.
