First Hawaiian Bank is back in Lahaina.

The bank celebrated the opening of its temporary location inside the Lahaina Cannery Mall on Friday with the blessing of the 1,467-square-foot space.

With the opening, First Hawaiian Bank again has a full-service branch in Lahaina after the bank lost its building at 222 Papalaua St. in the August 2023 wildfires.

“We’re so excited to be reopening in Lahaina today,” said Bob Harrison, chairman, president and CEO of First Hawaiian Bank. “It’s a temporary location, but it just looks beautiful. And the staff is back. A number of them were at the Lahaina branch before the tragedy and the fire, and now we’re able to bring them back to their community to help serve customers and be there for everybody that needs our help right now.”

In addition to opening the temporary location at Lahaina Cannery Mall, First Hawaiian Bank plans to reopen the historic location once it is approved and deemed appropriate, as the bank says it is trying to ensure the timing aligns with the community’s broader recovery and rebuilding efforts.

“We are deeply committed to serving Lahaina and ensuring that this community has the support and partnership it deserves to thrive once again,” Harrison said. “The reopening of our Lahaina branch is another opportunity to work together with our customers and neighbors to rebuild and move forward.”

During the grand opening ceremony, First Hawaiian Bank presented a $25,000 donation to Imua Family Services.

“This gift helps us walk alongside families in Lahaina and across Maui, providing resources and encouragement during a time when our community needs it most,” said Dean Wong, CEO of the nonprofit organization. “Together, we can ensure that children and families continue to thrive and grow to their full potential.”

The new branch also features an art installation by local visual artist Hiroki Morinoue that was inspired by Lahaina’s story of renewal and its journey toward a bright future. The branch also has a conference room, two private offices, three teller stations, an ATM and a night depository. The branch was constructed with low-VOC interior finishes and re-used equipment where possible.

The new branch is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“For all of our employees, we’re back, we’re back in Lahaina,” Harrison said. “We are here to support everybody and we really appreciate all of your help because everybody really made this happen.”

As part of the transition to the new branch, First Hawaiian Bank also says the bank is adding to its team. For more, go to FHB.com/careers.
