KS-Maui girls volleyball cruises at classic; Baldwin clips Maui High in five-set thriller

The Kamehameha Schools Maui girls volleyball team placed second in the silver division at the Hawaii Island Labor Day Classic.
“It was an amazing experience,” coach Sienna Davis said. “We had a memorable run throughout the tournament.”
The event held over three days last week in Hilo featured 48 teams from Hawaii, California Arizona and Nevada. Kamehameha Maui was the lone Maui representative.
According to Davis, KS-M defeated KS Hawaiʻi 25-21, 25-19 and then beat Immanuel of California 25-17, 25-21 before falling to Foothills, California, 17-25, 20-25.
Kamehameha Maui dropped three games Friday, losing a hard-fought match to KS- Kapālama 20-25, 20-25. KS-Maui then fell to Central Valley Christian and Ironwood Ridge, Arizona.
On Saturday the team came back to defeat Hawaiʻi Preparatory Academy 25-19, 22-25, 15-11 and then beat (25-14, 25-12)
Davis said the team lost a thrilling three -set silver championship to Immanuel 21-25, 25-18, 12-15.
“This tournament was about so much more than competition. Weʻre incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play teams from across the paeʻāina and the continent,” Davis said. ” Our girls faced challenges, grew not only in their volleyball skills, but also in their mental toughness, and strengthened their bonds with each other and with us coaches.”

Kamehameha Maui also defeated King Kekaulike 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 on Tuesday. In the game, Hiʻilei Alo led the Warriors with 21 assists as well as a block, a dig and two aces. Uʻilani Ahana had a team-high 15 kills and three digs, and Archer Fabrao had 12 kills.
In other action, Baldwin defeated Maui High in a five-set thriller. The Bears struck first and won the opening set 25-23. Maui High responded in the second set to win 25-23, and the Sabers took the third set 25-18. In the fourth set, Baldwin rallied to a 26-24 set victory and won the final set 15-11.
On Friday, Molokai came from behind to defeat Hana in five sets, winning 19-25, 20-20, 25-22, 25-14, 16-14. On Saturday, Molokai defeated Hana 25-21, 25-10, 25-18.
Neah Hoopai Feliciano led Hana with 8 kills, two aces and six digs. Kukui Kalalan had six kills, five aces and two digs.
Destiny Perry (4 kills, 4 aces, 8 assists and 5 digs) and Skye Boeche (2 kills, 3 aces, 7 assists and six digs) led the team in assists. Hailani Roback and Jaelyn Sinena each had three aces and six digs.
Also on Saturday, Lanai defeated Kihei Charter 25-5, 25-9, 27-5. Lanai was led by Kamila-Mafi Koloi with three kills, eight assists and five aces while Alina Garbin (1 kill, 5 aces), Princess Burgos (2 kills, 1 ace), Zana Bolo (2 kills), Graziella Reece (2 kills), Destinee Dupree (2 kills, 1 ace), Myah Doolin (3 assists, 4 aces) and Eliana Bocon (2 kills, 1 ace) all chipped in to help Lanai get the win.
On Friday, Lanai defeated Kihei Charter 25-9, 25-8, 25-20 with Kamila-Mafi Koloi (5 kills, 11 assist) Alina Garbin (4 kills), Princess Burgos (4 kills) and Zana Bolo (3 kills) leading the attack.
