Residents rally on Maui for peace

On Sunday, the Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea came together with the Satellite Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea for peace pole planting ceremonies and multiple peace events.
The events began Sunday with a livestream at eight peace pole locations across Maui, including Teran James Young Foundation, Maui County Building, I'ao Valley, Hawaiian Moons, South Maui Gardens, Kihei Elementary School, Nalu's South Shore Grill, and IMUA Discovery Garden.
TJYF hosted the livestream on peace and asked audience members for their input on peace solutions. Ideas included better communications, greater listening and spending more time together in person.
A prominent visit on the livestream included a peace pole ceremony at IMUA Discovery Garden. The ceremony was led by Kimokeo Kapahulehua, who performed a traditional Hawaiian blessing with many Rotary and community members present.
The peace celebrations will culminate with the third annual Rally Around Peace hosted by the Teran James Young Foundation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at South Maui Gardens, 35 Auhana Road, in Kihei.
Entrance is free. VIP tickets are $15 and include additional access to healing zone, massage, reiki and premium seating.
"Rotary is excited to be a part of this event, and we will have a booth available for more information on Rotary and our projects," said Wendy Hornack, chairperson of the Rotary Satellite Club of Kihei-Wailea. "We’d love to see you and share this time together.”
