Event roundup: Fun-filled Halloween in store for Maui
Entering the spooky season, Halloween is just around the corner, and across the Valley Isle, there’s no shortage of events to enjoy.
True to Maui’s tight-knit community spirit, many locals take pride in the unique opportunities that businesses and organizations provide for everyone to come together and celebrate the season.
Kicking off on the south side, South Maui Gardens is hosting a free Halloween in the Gardens event from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 30. Festivities include a keiki costume contest and a pet parade. Partnering with Maui Humane Society, the event invites attendees to dress up their dogs for a fun and festive evening. Whether you’re looking to adopt a new furry friend or just want to enjoy the lively community atmosphere, this event is a great way to celebrate Halloween on Maui.
Heading over to ProArts Playhouse in Kihei, Tempa & Naor’s Soul Kitchen will have dancers moving and grooving at their Halloween dance party beginning at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Tickets range from $31-$53. If you’re looking to spend a couple of hours dancing and enjoying the musical talents of this Maui duo, this is the place to be on Halloween night.
Down the street at the Azeka Shopping Center, they will kick off the weekend with Kihei’s Fourth Friday from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 24, featuring a special Halloween theme.
Azeka Makai will also be bringing back their South Shore Haunted House at 6 p.m. from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1. Admission is $5 with all proceeds benefiting the Pacific Cancer Foundation Children’s Fund. For those who love haunted houses, this is a chance to experience one of Maui’s signature Halloween attractions.
On Halloween night, a Trunk or Treat will take place for the keiki at Azeka, offering a variety of entertainment, including the Kaʻiana “Chief of War” exhibit, a Wednesday Addams Family display, face painting, a bubble machine, food tents and more. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
“Presented in partnership with Nalu’s South Shore Grill and Street Bikers United Maui Chapter, children of all ages are encouraged to dress up and trick-or-treat,” said marketing executive Ryan Nickos.
Farther south, The Shops at Wailea is inviting locals and visitors to its Keiki Halloween from 3-7 p.m. Oct. 26. Set at one of Maui’s premier shopping centers, the event offers a full lineup of family-friendly fun from trick-or-treating through the shops and balloon animal creations to a magic show with Brenton Keith. The biggest draw at The Shops at Wailea might be its costume contest.
During the costume contest, children, families and pets are all encouraged to showcase their most creative, whimsical or spooky outfits, with awards presented by age group as well as categories for families and pets. The grand prize winner will receive two round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines. Participants can register in advance for the contest via Eventbrite at tinyurl.com/5a6kzswf. Thanks to the Shops at Wailea, its participating storefronts and community volunteers, this local tradition gives everyone a chance to get into the Halloween spirit a few days early while celebrating with Maui’s local and visiting families.
A short drive from The Shops at Wailea, Mulligans on the Blue will host a Halloween Party at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 with live music from the Island Soul Band. Attendees are encouraged to arrive in costume. Admission is $10 with a reservation on OpenTable, or $15 without.
As the Halloween spirit travels into Kahului, the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center will be having its Holo Holo Halloween on Halloween night starting at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. This family-friendly event includes trick-or-treating, a costume contest, games, community outreach and prizes.
Partnering with Just Keiki Dental, the center is working to encourage healthy habits for Maui’s youth alongside Halloween festivities with plenty of candy. It’s a great opportunity for families across the island to enjoy a fun evening at the mall with easy access.
In the mood for another haunted house thrill? Maui Mall will be hosting its pop-up haunted house on Oct. 16-18, Oct. 23-25, Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1, giving plenty of opportunities for your family and friends to join in the Halloween spirit.
Continuing the fun at Maui Mall from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 25 will be the Boo Bash. Dress up in your best costumes for a keiki costume contest, prizes, trick-or-treating, good food and music for the whole family to enjoy in the courtyard.
Taking a turn toward the west side, don’t forget to stop by the Parlay in Wailuku town for their Three to 5 Halloween Special Session at 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Entry is $10 per person, and the event will feature music into the night. DJ Sweet Beets will lead the party from 8-10 p.m., followed by Three to 5 from 10 p.m. to midnight.
Leaving Wailuku and heading to the other side of the West Maui Mountains, the Pacific Whale Foundation is hosting a Halloween-themed cruise, Boos & Brews, at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 25, 26 and 31 Departing from Maʻalea Harbor, guests are asked to arrive 45 minutes early for check-in. This event is for ages 21 and over and includes two complimentary premium beverages during the 2.5-hour cruise. Arriving in Lahaina, the Lahaina Cannery Mall will host its Halloween Spooktacular from 4-7 p.m. on Halloween. The event features keiki crafts, balloon twisting, face painting and center-wide trick-or-treating. Contestants in the costume contest at the Lahaina Cannery will compete for prizes, with the grand prize winner receiving two round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines. Registration runs from 4-5 p.m.
“Halloween at Lahaina Cannery has become such a fun community tradition,” said Lynn Okamoto, general manager of Lahaina Cannery. “We’re excited to welcome families back again this year and grateful to Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines for helping us offer such an amazing grand prize.”
Also on Oct. 31, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Coco Nene Lahaina will host a superhero-themed costume in Lahaina. All children ages 12 and under may enter free of charge with prizes awarded at 5 p.m. after judging by Spiderman himself.
Halloween just isn’t Halloween without the Addams Family. On Oct. 31, Mala Ocean Tavern in Lahaina will hold Spirits by the Sea, kicking off at 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 pre-sale or $20 at the door.
Mala Ocean Tavern welcomes both Maui locals and visitors to come together for a night of Halloween and Addams Family themed festivities by the ocean — complete with music, drinks, costumes and stunning waterfront views — continuing until 1 a.m.
Halloween fun comes to life on Maui’s North Shore as Paia welcomes everyone to join in a full evening and night of festivities on Oct. 31. Keiki trick-or-treating will take place from 3-6 p.m., followed by the keiki costume contest at 6:30 p.m. at Flatbread Pizza Company.
The night will wrap up with the adult costume contest across the street at Paia Bay Coffee & Bar, starting at 10 p.m.
As a multitude of restaurants, local brands, shopping centers and businesses team up to create fun, family-filled events this Halloween, the season is all about sharing joy, dressing up and making memories with one another.
