Five middle school girls arrested on third-degree assault, kidnapping charges

Maui police are investigating an incident in which five middle school girls allegedly trapped a male student inside a soundproof at Kalama Intermediate School in Makawao and assaulted him.

According to Maui police, at about 1:10 p.m. Friday, five girls ages 13 and 14 held the 13-year-old boy inside a soundproof room near the ukulele room at the school by blocking the door while one of the girls held his arms.

Police said several of the girls recorded the incident on their cell phones, and after about 20 minutes, the boy was finally able to escape the room.

Maui police said that based on their investigation, all five of the female students who were allegedly involved in the incident were taken into custody and subsequently released to the custody of Family Court.

Police said four of the girls — three 13-year-olds and one 14-year-old — were arrested and charged with third-degree assault and kidnapping, and one 14-year-old girl was arrested and charged with kidnapping.
