Kamehameha Maui advances to state championship game

The Kamehameha Maui football team defeated Kamehameha Hawaii 37-18 Saturday night at Kana’iaupuni Stadium to advance to the HHSAA Division II state championship next week.
KS-Maui was largely unstoppable Saturday night at home, scoring on its opening drive and taking a 34-0 lead before KS-Hawaii got its first touchdown with 16 second left in the third quarter.
KS-Maui running back Zedekaiah Campbell scored four TDs in the game, with three coming before halftime from one, two and eight yards out.
Campbell scored his fourth TD with another eight-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. In all four quarters, Campbell had 145 yards on 23 carries.
His teammate, Xander Pagan, ran for 117 yards on 17 carries, giving KS-Maui two backs with more than 100 rushing yards in the game.
KS-Maui quarterback Kekoa Keau-Davis completed nine of his 16 passes for 130 yards, while Loea Asuega-Stark with two catches for 72 yards and Beltran with three for 25 yards were his leading targets.
Beltran also threw a 13-yard touchdown to receiver Kayden Yap on a trick play with seconds left before halftime.
With the win, No. 1-seeded Kamehameha Maui advances to play No. 2 Waimea in the state championship game Nov. 28 at John Kauinana Stadium at Mililani High School.
