36-year-old man arrested in connection to Haiku break-ins

Maui police believe they have caught the man responsible for a series of residential break-ins in the Haiku area.

Many people in the Haiku community have been on edge following reports of multiple break-ins in the area. In one alleged incident, a woman told Hawaii News Now that in late July she woke up to find a man dressed in black standing over her bed and touching her. The man reportedly ran out of the home when she screamed.

Police confirmed Friday that German Zboron, 36, was arrested on Wednesday in connection to several burglaries in the Haiku area, but police declined to release specific details about his alleged crimes, citing a need to protect victim privacy and preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

It was not clear Friday what charges Zboron is facing, but Maui police said they are working with federal agencies to ensure the strongest possible case. A search of Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center records shows no prior criminal convictions for Zboron, who remains in custody.

“This arrest should bring added peace of mind to our residents,” Maui Police Chief John Pelletier said in a statement.

Pelletier added that investigators are continuing to follow up on leads to identify any additional victims or related crimes.

“Our priority is keeping our community safe, and this case is another example of that ongoing commitment,” he said.

On Friday, police thanked community members who reported suspicious activity, saying their efforts contributed greatly to the suspect’s apprehension.

Police are also encouraging the public to remain vigilant. Anyone who sees suspicious behavior should not approach the individual or individuals, but should call police immediately.

Anyone with information related to recent break-ins in the Haiku area is urged to call (808) 244-6425. In case of an emergency, call 911.
