7 residents displaced as authorities investigate suspicious fire

Investigators believe a house fire in Wailuku that displaced seven people Sunday night may have been intentionally set, according to the Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety.
The fire at the 1600 block of Piihana Road destroyed an 800-square-foot residence and a recreational vehicle on the property, according to the department.
While the preliminary investigation has revealed signs the fire could be arson, the investigation is ongoing.
No one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters received the initial alert at 6:45 p.m., and brought the blaze under control by 7:06 p.m. The fire was extinguished at 9 p.m.
Seven residents were displaced by the blaze. The department said they are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The structure was estimated at $128,000, while the dollar value of the RV and property inside the home have not yet been determined.
Two Maui Fire engines, a tanker, a hazmat crew, battalion chief and fire investigator responded to the incident.
