Sen. Mazie Hirono

U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono is scheduled to hold a forum featuring educators and civil rights experts discussing the potential consequences of efforts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

Hirono’s office said the forum will focus on attacks on federal education programs, particularly those benefiting low-income, Native and migrant communities.

The forum will be livestreamed on Hirono’s Twitter/X and YouTube channels.

The program is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 16 and will include Randy Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and Rachel Gittleman, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 252.
