Maui fire officials said there were 22 fire-related calls, including five brush fires reported in a 24-hour period near New Year’s Eve.

The brush fires happened in areas including Napili, Maui Lani, and Hana.

There were six rubbish bin/dumpster fires, two vehicle fires, and three small fires on residential properties, all extinguished before firefighters arrived.

There were also three unauthorized bon fires, officials said.

The county Department of Fire and Public Safety added additional firefighters and apparatus in preparation of the upswing in fire calls.

The department said the 22 calls took place in a 24-hour period beginning Dec. 31, 2025 at 7:30 a.m.
