Filipino organization to honor local leaders Jan. 10

The Maui Filipino Community Council and Foundation will have the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Leadership Awards dinner at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Maui Beach Hotel.

According to the organization, the annual event is meant to honor people who show the courage, intellect and compassion of the Philippines’ national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, and it serves as an important fundraiser for the MFCC Foundation, which provides scholarships for high school graduates pursuing higher education.

The honorees this year will be Tante Urban (distinguished service), Nestor Ugale Jr. (outstanding citizen), Angel Alba (outstanding youth), Perlita Manlansing (outstanding member), Lance Collins, (excellence in the arts), Sydney Villegas (excellence in education) Dr. Gloria Rongcal Gage (excellence in medicine), Vince G. Bagoyo Jr. (excellence in literature and media) and Alvin “Kai” Pelayo (excellence in science).

“By honoring these nine remarkable leaders, we not only celebrate the legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal but also invest in the next generation of visionaries through our scholarship program,” said Madelyne Pascua, MFCC President.
