Gas prices inch up, but stay near lowest point in four years

According to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average for regular unleaded stands at $4.40 per gallon. That is one cent higher than last week and 15 cents lower than this time last year. Meanwhile, the national average is $2.92 per gallon, down two cents from last week and 24 cents lower than a year ago. In comparison, drivers in Hawaii are paying $1.48 more per gallon than the national average.
In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded is $4.29 per gallon, unchanged from last week and 17 cents lower than this time last year. In Hilo, the average is $4.63 per gallon, up two cents from last week and three cents below last year’s level. In Kahului, the average price is $4.48 per gallon, five cents more than last week and eight cents lower than a year ago. In Lihue, the average price stands at $4.90 per gallon, up one cent from last week but 29 cents below the same time last year.
“The last time that the statewide gas price average was at these low levels was in February 2022,” said Kandace Redd, Senior Public Affairs Specialist at AAA Hawaii. “AAA Hawaii continues to monitor fuel market trends and encourages drivers to compare prices and plan ahead to better manage their fuel budgets.”
