A paraglider suffered hip, back and leg injuries when he landed off course Saturday at the bottom of the cliffs below the Pauwela Lighthouse in Haiku.

According to the Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety, ocean safety officers aboard a Jet Ski found the 34-year-old man along the shoreline at the bottom of the cliffs after 12:40 p.m.

Firefighters aboard the Air 1 helicopter lifted the man to a landing zone. He was transferred to EMS and taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

The rescue operation concluded at about 2:40 p.m.
