State officials are warning anyone who has made reservations with ACE Rent A Car Maui to seek other arrangements.

According to the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection, the company has ceased doing business on Maui and is not honoring existing bookings.

Travelers who prebooked rental vehicles through the company can expect no shuttle service and no personnel available to assist them upon arrival at Kahului Airport.

The Office of Consumer Protection is urging affected travelers to direct all questions and concerns about reservations and refunds to the company’s customer care department at (844) 874-3966 or customercare@acerentacar.com.

Consumers are also being advised to seek alternative rental car options at Kahului Airport, as well as to contact their credit card company to dispute any prepaid charges, and to file a formal complaint with the Office of Consumer Protection if the company does not provide a full refund when one is due.

State officials said consumers should retain all documentation, including reservation confirmations, receipts and any correspondence with ACE Rent A Car.

ACE Rent A Car’s Maui operations, operated by Tropical Holdings, are located at 445 Kele St. in Kahului. A separately owned ACE Rent A Car operates on Oahu and is not affiliated with the Maui location. This alert applies only to the Maui operation.

Prior to ceasing operations, the Maui location had been the subject of numerous consumer complaints alleging deceptive business practices, including unauthorized charges for insurance coverage that customers had declined.
