Haleakala National Park has reversed an earlier announcement saying the Summit District would reopen Wednesday.
The park closed after record-breaking rainfall caused widespread damage and flooding throughout Maui County over the weekend.
At the top of Halakela, rain totals from March 10-15 registered more than 49 inches.
While the park had announced Tuesday that the summit would reopen Wednesday, that has since changed. In an updated announcement Tuesday evening, park officials said that due to road repairs, both districts of the park will remain closed until further notice.
The park’s Kipahulu District remains closed to the public until the highway from Hana to Kipahulu in East Maui is reopened.
