Hawaiian Electric: Customers should prepare for extended outages

At 2 p.m. Friday, Hawaiian Electric reported that crews were working to restore power to about 15,000 customers in various areas of Maui, Lanai and a pocket area on Molokai.

Hawaiian Electric is also asking residents in Hawaii Kai and East Honolulu to prepare for potential extended outages with about 113,800 customers without power on Oahu.

The possibility for extended outages could last overnight or longer, according to Hawaiian Electric.

Hawaiian Electric’s response may be delayed as crews are not able to make repairs in dangerous weather conditions. Hawaiian Electric crews and contractors have been deployed across Oahu, Maui County and Hawaii Island to address outages as the powerful storm system is expected to make its way across the island chain throughout the weekend.

All customers are urged to prepare for the possibility of extended outages.

Starting at $4.62/week.
