Hawaiian Electric pushes restoration efforts ahead of 2nd storm

Hawaiian Electric said Thursday that it is mobilizing all available resources including extra personnel, helicopters and heavy equipment to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, about 220 customers in Maui County remained without power after crews restored service to about 70 customers. People lost power as a powerful storm brought heavy rain and high winds to Maui County last week.

Work included the use of a helicopter in East Maui to install a 55-foot pole and transport equipment into areas inaccessible by truck, along with repairs in other parts of the island.

However, with a new storm approaching, customers are being asked to prepare for potential extended or new outages.

Starting at $4.62/week.
