Kula Highway roadwork to continue through October
The $8.7-million roadwork project at Omaopio Road and Kula Highway in Upcountry will require caution and patience through most of 2026, according to state transportation officials.
The work began in December and is expected to continue through October 2026.
Until further notice, there is a shoulder closure on Kula Highway in the north-bound direction at Omaopio Road. The closure is in effect 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Also, with the shoulder closure, bicyclists may be using the travel lane, state officials said.
Officials said the law requires drivers to give cyclists a 3-foot clearance when passing. The posted construction speed limit through the project is 25 mph.
According to state officials, the northbound lane on Kula Highway at the Omaopio Road intersection will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, except state holidays. Traffic will be alternated in the open lane.
The work includes the installation of a traffic signal, highway lighting, guardrail improvements, a left turn storage lane on Kula Highway, embankment widening and a retaining wall.
