Maui County firefighters rescued a 60-year-old man who fell while hiking the Waihee Ridge Trail on Monday.

According to the department, rescue personnel responded to the call at about 9:51 a.m. The man from Washington state had hurt his leg in the fall and was unable to walk.

Firefighters hiked to the man’s location near the top of the trail and rendered initial medical care.

The man was then lifted aboard the Air 1 helicopter and flown to the Waihee Ballpark, where he was transferred to EMS and taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The rescue concluded at 11:38 a.m.
