The Target in Kahului plans to reopen Monday after the retail store was inundated with floodwater during the two kona storms that hit Hawaii in back-to-back weeks.

The two storm systems brought heavy rain and severe weather that caused widespread damage across Maui County and the state. Gov. Josh Green has said damage estimates could be as high as $1 billion.

Due to flooding from the first storm, the Target in Kahului location was forced to close.

Since then, the store has worked to restore the facility, while ensuring that all safety, structural and operational standards are being met, according to company officials.

Additionally, the workers at Target have supported the Maui Food Bank with more than 55 pallets of food provided to the nonprofit through multiple pickups between March 19-23.

Target is also providing a $25,000 emergency grant to help the Maui Food Bank scale up operations during the storm recovery effort.

Target team members also helped load the donations onto Maui Food Bank trucks for transport to distribution sites.

Target said it has partnered with the Maui Food Bank since opening the Maui store in 2015, and this is the 20th year of Target’s national partnership with Feeding America, which allowed the organization access to more resources during times of crisis.

“I have seen firsthand the care and urgency our teams have brought, working around the clock to move cleanup and rebuilding forward so we can safely reopen,” Human Resource Business Partner Manu Lopes said. “I’m especially proud of our Maui store team, who continue to show incredible care for one another and for the community during an incredibly challenging time.”

The store will reopen with normal hours on Monday with all services available.

Starting at $4.62/week.
