Maui United Way designates nonprofits to receive funds
Maui United Way has designated five Maui County nonprofits to receive funding through the state’s Act 310 program, the organization announced.
The recipients are Women Helping Women, Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center, Ka Hale Pomaikaʻi, Hana Arts and ʻOhana Makamae.
Maui United Way will serve as the disbursement agency for the county’s share of the funds, which were appropriated by the state Legislature to help offset the loss of federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding and maintain services in rural communities.
According to the organization, Act 310 set aside $50 million statewide through the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Office of Community Services to support nonprofits affected by reductions or delays in federal funding.
As the local intermediary, Maui United Way will issue subcontracts to the nonprofits, distribute the funds and oversee compliance and reporting requirements.
